This project was to design and build a rustic custom stairway using my customer's lumber, and from deadfall and trees removed for safety. These were harvested, milled and dried at their property. Wood for newels, balusters, handrails and risers came from maple. Risers were from maple and treads from hemlock.
The complexities took my woodworking into new and interesting territories., in addition to working with raw lumber. The most challenging part was joining the handrails with the newel posts at the landings. The complex angles at the 90 degree turn between the newel posts and angles with the handrails made fabricating and installing very challengings.
